Motorised Esky Racing
Esky Racing takes the humble cooler and turns it into a racing machine! Competitors ride motorised eskies around a short track, combining speed, balance and a sense of humour. It’s quirky, quick to set up, and guaranteed to keep the crowd entertained.
Competition Regulations
Principles of the Competition
- The Motorised Esky Competition is conducted:
- To raise interest within the community of our event and fundraising efforts.
- As an added attraction at the Show.
- To develop contact between our patrons and the charitable entities involved.
- All motor racing is dangerous. Participation exposes competitors to inherent risks.
- Breaching rules or Association directives will result in automatic disqualification.
- Drivers behaving inappropriately (as deemed by the Chief Steward) will be disqualified.
- Directives of Officials must be followed.
- Only manufacturer’s standard machines are to be used.
- Standard specifications include:
- Engine Size: 49cc, 4 stroke, 1.5HP
- Starting method: Pull Start
- Seat Height: 670mm
- Storage Capacity: 48L
- Max Load Capacity: 100kg
- Max Speed: 25km/h
- Repairs/maintenance must use only standard or similar parts—no unauthorised parts.
- Machine enhancements are not allowed.
- No additional adornments are allowed unless approved.
- Machines must be inspected and approved by the Chief Steward before racing.
- Drivers must be aged between 16 and 70 and not exceed 100kg load capacity.
- All drivers must wear long sleeve shirts, long trousers, and enclosed shoes.
- Helmets are compulsory (minimum standard: bike helmet; larger preferred).
- Drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be allowed to compete.
- Refusal to undertake a blood alcohol test = automatic disqualification.
- Race numbers may be allocated and must be worn on front and back.
- Drivers without a visible number may be disqualified.
19.The minimum officials required:
- Chief Steward – oversees competition and rule enforcement.
- Race Marshalls – ensure competitor safety, implement track safety (flags), marshal competitors, communicate with Chief Steward.
- Timing Manager – oversees timekeeping team; only official times count.
- Pit Supervisor – oversees repairs/maintenance in the pits.
- Announcer – calls heats, finals, and communicates updates.
20.Officials' decisions are final unless officially protested.
21. Charity Fundraising Competition Course:
- Entry: $100 per entrant
- Includes 1 practice lap and 1 heat (more if qualified)
- 2 parallel straight tracks (min 50m), zigzag haybales, turnaround barrel, load esky with food/drink, then sprint to finish
- Drivers race in pairs; best times go to finals (semi-finals if enough entries)
22. Competitive Courses:
- Entry fee to be determined
- Up to 4 machines per heat
- Finals grid: 2 sets of 3 boxes based on qualifying times
- Semi-finals: 5 laps; Grand Final: 15 laps
- Clock continues unless red flag shown
- Chequered flag ends the race
23. All course layouts must be pre-approved by the insurer and held on flat showgrounds.
24.All participants must sign the ASC of NSW Participant Risk Acknowledgement & Waiver. Chief Steward acts as Safety Officer.
25.St John’s Ambulance or equivalent must be in attendance.
26. Flag Use:
- Chequered – race winner
- Yellow – slow down, no overtaking
- Red – stop immediately, move to track edge
- Green – resume racing
27. Trackside Equipment:
- Minimum 2 fire extinguishers & fire blankets
- First aid kit required
28. Pit Procedures:
- One lane in, one out
- Engines off when refuelling or doing repairs
- Drivers may exit and re-enter race from pits
- Machines rejoining must yield to passing racers
29. Driving Protocols:
- If stalled at start, raise arm—marshal will assist
- If breakdown during race, disembark so marshals can remove machine
- Leaving the track other than for pit stop = withdrawal from race
- Dangerous driving = penalty or disqualification (Chief Steward’s discretion)
- No contact allowed when overtaking—penalty applies
30. Collisions:
- Deliberate=disqualification or penalty
- Inadvertent = penalty (Chief Steward’s discretion)
