Whipcracking workshops and competitions celebrate a true bush skill, with competitors showing off their timing, technique and trick-cracking ability. It’s noisy, impressive, and a great way to keep an iconic rural tradition alive.

Competition Regulations

- Take extreme care when cracking your whip. Ensure there is no one within your vicinity.
- The tip of a whip can travel at over 1400 feet per second — faster than the speed of sound — and is capable of cutting flesh, breaking bones, or causing permanent eye damage.
- All participants must remain within the designated roped-off area, approximately 15m x 15m in size.
- Spectators and non-participants must stay outside the designated cracking zone.
- Safety gear is strongly recommended, including:
- A wide-brimmed hat
- Safety glasses
- Ear plugs
- Excessive or repeated cracking should be avoided to minimise noise disturbance to people and animals.
- A first aid kit must be present on site in accordance with insurance requirements.
- Instructors and supervisors have the authority to stop participation if safety rules are not followed.
