Bangalow Show

The first Bangalow Show was held in March 1897 and quickly became a popular feature of the “Big Scrub” district. Its foundation was inspired by William Hayer, with George Reading as first president and H. Pemberton as secretary. At the inaugural show, A.C. Alcorn, later known as the “father of NORCO,” won champion cow and champion hack on “Whalebone.” By the early 1900s, Bangalow was regarded as a leading dairy cattle show, noted for both the number and quality of exhibits and strong public attendance. A permanent showground of 17½ acres was secured in 1905, with ongoing improvements made over time, including extensions to the show ring in the 1940s.
