Bellingen Show

The Bellinger River Agricultural Association was established at Fernmount, holding its inaugural show in 1883—the first of its kind on the North Coast between the Hunter and Clarence Rivers. The first event took place in a paddock owned by George Tyson. Police magistrate Corbett Lawson served as both president and secretary in the early years. Among the long-serving members was R.S. “Powder” McDougall, who remained on the committee for 50 years. Shows were held at various locations until 1910, when land was secured at North Bellingen. Over time, the grounds were developed with a pavilion and other improvements, becoming a well-regarded showground on the coast.
