Cessnock Show

The Cessnock and District Agricultural Association was formed in 1924, holding its first show that same year with simple facilities, including sapling pavilions and a rope-formed ring. The founding committee included prominent local figures, vignerons and farmers, with J.Y. Tulloch as first president and Bill Brown serving as long-time secretary. Maurice O’Shea, a noted winemaker, was also among the early members. Over time, the showground was developed with improved facilities and infrastructure. The association also contributed to the wider community by providing land for local sporting use, reflecting its strong civic involvement.
