Dalgety Show

The Dalgety Show Society, though based in a historic district, is comparatively young, its first show held on February 14, 1945, near the end of World War II. Foundation officers were president Darcy Hixon, secretary W.J. Bruce and treasurer J. Woodhouse. Shows were initially staged on weekdays, later shifting to Saturday, before a move to Sunday some years ago proved highly successful. A shearing competition became a major drawcard, alongside pipe bands, parades, marching girls and sheepdog trials. Set beside the Snowy River, the Dalgety showground is notably picturesque, ringed with willows and pines, with additional specialty trees planted in recent years.
