Show History
The Pastoral and Agricultural Society of Deniliquin was formed in 1876, with the first show in 1877. The society's founder and president was Alfred Napoleon Gilbert, who died at 51 in 1879 leaving his brother, William, to carry on. William was known as "Blathering Billy" because he was always extolling the virtues of the society at the Royal Hotel, where he boarded. In 1952, the show moved to Memorial Park which is also used by football, cricket, netball and rodeo clubs. The Deniliquin Show is now held on the first weekend of March when the "best Merino sheep in the Riverina" are exhibited.
