Dubbo Show

The Dubbo Show Society was formed on December 16, 1871, at the Royal Hotel, originally as the North Western Pastoral and Agricultural Association. A total of $160 was raised to stage the first show, held on March 23, 1873, attracting a large crowd and keen competition across all sections. The first president was H.R.C. Bird, A highlight came with the 1954 visit of Queen Elizabeth II, when media noted she reviewed a “guard of honour” with their backs turned—referring to a line of prize sheep. During the severe influenza epidemic of 1919, the Dubbo showground served as a hospital area.
