Dungog Show

The Dungog Agricultural and Horticultural Association is believed to have held its first annual show in March or April 1887. The present showground at Victoria Park was secured from the Lands Department in 1924, and its grandstand, built in 1929, remains in use. Until 1932, special trains from Newcastle brought patrons to the show, with passenger carriages even attached to passing goods trains. It attracted leading Australian horsemen and women, while its stud livestock entries reflect the quality of the district, the Hunter and surrounding area.
