Forbes Show

Traditions from around the world converged with the 1861 gold rush on the site of present-day Forbes, though pastoralists had already established vast holdings across the Mid-Lachlan. As the district developed, the need to promote pastoral, agricultural and horticultural pursuits grew. In 1872, the Forbes Show Movement began, with the nation’s first sheepdog trials held at the inaugural show. The Forbes Pastoral, Agricultural and Horticultural Association became the first of its kind in the Central West. A century later, the district’s progress and heritage were celebrated with the Centenary Exhibition in 1975.
