The Gilgandra Pastoral and Agricultural Association was formed in 1911 and staged its first show on the racecourse in 1912. The first president was W. Stockings.
An area of 35 acres was acquired from the Department of Lands in 1912 for a showground; additional grants since then have brought up the area to 70 acres.
