Show History
The Goulburn Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Society was formed on March 24, 1880, with W.P. Faithfull as its first president, supported by seven vice-presidents and a formidable committee of 76. Within three months, the society had raised sufficient funds to secure a grant of eight acres for a showground and £500. Improvements followed at remarkable speed, enabling the society by March 1881 to advertise its “First Grand Show,” held from April 6–8, 1881. By 1929, the original eight-acre site had become too small for the growing annual exhibitions, prompting the acquisition of a larger area on Yass Road, now known as Caravan Park and Workers Arena. This showground was sold to Goulburn City Council in 1945 during World War II. Since 1947, the Goulburn Show has been staged at the Goulburn Recreation Area.
