Show History
A gold rush in the 1860s led to the formation of an agricultural society at Grenfell. First settled in 1833, the district found a ready market for produce when thousands of miners arrived following the 1866 gold discovery at Emu Creek, soon renamed Grenfell. As mining declined by 1873–74, many miners turned to pastoral and agricultural pursuits. In September 1875 they formed the Grenfell Pastoral and Agricultural Society, staging their first show in August 1876. The name was later changed to the P.A.H. & I. Society. The present showground site was secured in 1884 and has since seen many improvements. Grenfell achieved notable success, winning first prize in District Exhibits at the Royal Easter Show in 1901, 1904 and 1905, before joining the Southern District Exhibit.
