Show History
Records of early shows are scant, but the first is believed to have been held about 1896, with the Gunning Pastoral, Agricultural and Industrial Society likely formed in 1901. Early horse-and-buggy shows took place on a vacant allotment beside the present Hume Highway before moving to Endeavour Park. Schedules featured Merino sheep, cattle, horses, poultry, farm produce, arts and crafts. Today, cattle and poultry have given way to British breed sheep, angora goats and dairy goats, while trotting has long remained a highlight. Over the years, many improvements have been made to the showground. The society contributed to the construction of the Industrial Hall in 1937, built with the Gunning Shire Council, and still used as the pavilion and luncheon booth during the show.
