Hawkesbury Show

The forerunner of the Hawkesbury Agricultural Association was the Penrith Agricultural Association, formed on October 7, 1843, among the oldest in Australia, with meetings alternating between Penrith and Windsor. By 1845, it had become the Penrith and Hawkesbury Agricultural Association, staging an exhibition at Clarendon. A commemorative silver medal from that event remains with the present association. The original body later lapsed, and it was not until 1875 that meetings in Richmond and Windsor revived interest, leading to the formation of the Hawkesbury District Agricultural Association in 1879. The Hawkesbury Show has since gained renown for the quality and scale of its livestock exhibits. In 1984, work began on a new 40-hectare site at Clarendon, developed as a combined showground, sports and exhibition complex.
