Lismore Show

The North Coast National Show Society at Lismore sprang from the Lismore Agricultural and Industrial Society which held its first show on Australia Day, January 26, 1885. Its four-days 25th anniversary show in 1910 attracted an aggregate attendance of 25,000 people, including 10,000 on the opening day. There were 5,200 horse entries and 1,000 cattle entries. There was agitation between 1925 and 1931 for the combination of all shows in the Richmond and Tweed districts. This culminated in the formation of the North Coast National Show Society in 1932. Lismore was chosen as its headquarters because of its central location and the size of its exhibition grounds.
