Lithgow Show

The first show of the Lithgow Horticultural and Produce Society was held on November 26, 1885, in the School of Arts (now the Town Hall). The Lithgow Mercury described it as a “pleasant surprise,” noting the success achieved despite the committee’s inexperience. A display of pottery by the Lithgow Valley Company drew particular praise, “towering high above everything.” The society later became the Lithgow Agricultural, Horticultural and Produce Society and, in 1899, received a grant of £150 for the erection of a grandstand, marking an early step in the show’s development.
