Show History
The Tweed River Agricultural Society evolved from the Tweed, Brunswick & Border Agricultural and Pastoral Society, formed before 1890. Joshua Bray was the first recorded president, and the first show was held at Murwillumbah in 1898. The present name was adopted in 1911. Around that time, the original 11-acre showground grant was expanded to 123 acres, with a further eight acres added in 1964. Except for three years during World War II, the annual show has been held on the same site since 1898. Frequent flooding has destroyed many early buildings, though the main pavilion dates from about 1904. A notable highlight was the official opening of the 1977 show by Prince Charles.
