Show History
Agricultural activity in the Nepean–Hawkesbury district dates to 1805, with fairs, ploughing contests and livestock exhibitions. The Penrith Agricultural Association, formed on October 7, 1843, was among Australia’s earliest show societies, with an inaugural show recorded in 1846. Interest fluctuated until a successful Luddenham Show in 1891 renewed momentum, leading to the formation of the Nepean District Agricultural, Horticultural and Industrial Society in 1892 under T.J.F. Cadden. The society leased 32 acres from F.D. Woodriffe for a showground, later developed into one of Australia’s finest complexes. Today, it hosts regular harness racing alongside the annual Penrith Show.
