Show History
The Robertson Agricultural and Horticultural Society began as the Burrawang and West Camden Agricultural Society in 1879, with its first show held in April 1880. Early events used local saleyards for cattle, a schoolhouse and tents for exhibits, and cleared paddocks for horse competitions. A pioneer later recalled the opening banquet as unmatched. The society also acted as a progress association, advocating for district needs. In 1885, Robertson became the show venue, and the name changed after the 1886 event. Shows were held at various sites—horse events even ran along the main road—until a permanent 10-acre ground was secured in 1887 at “Alnwick.” Over time, activities expanded to include ploughing matches, field days and lectures, with the show gaining renown for dairy cattle, horses, potatoes, dahlias and sport.
