Show History
The first Spring Show was held behind the Royal Hotel on August 24, 1865, and again in 1866. The Northern Agricultural Association was formally established in 1868, and that year staged its first show on newly purchased grounds of 4½ acres, with buildings erected at a cost of £433. W.J. Dangar of “Neotsfield” was the first president, supported by a strong committee, including long-serving secretary C. Poppenhagen, who held office for 40 years. The show expanded to three days by 1898, and by 1907 the original site proved too small. A further 13½ acres was acquired, forming part of the present 22-acre showground.
