Sofala Show

The Sofala and District Show Society was formed in 1978, with the first show in February, 1979. Foundation president was Merv Tobin with Mrs Beryl McKellar as secretary. The Sofala Show was a success from the start. The attendance of 3,000 at the first show has increased each year since. Although the show is one of the youngest in the State, the showground is steeped in history. It comprises the Sofala Recreation Ground, dating back to the 1850's, and the Sofala Racecourse Reserve, where horse races were held from the early 1860's.
