Show History
The Taralga Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Association was formed in spring 1879, with the first show held on April 14, 1880. Due to interruptions during wartime, the centenary marking its 100th show was set for March 1986. Foundation president Lachlan Ross Snr, JP, served five years, supported by J. Voller (secretary), J. Miller, JP (vice-president) and W.H. Whiting (treasurer). Two earlier sites were used before the present showground was established in 1914. The first show took place at the “Racecourse Paddock,” attracting 275 entries and 500 attendees, before moving to “The Tip” and then to its current location. Much of the pavilion timber, hand-sawn at Bannaby by Arthur Whipp, was reused across sites and remains in use today.
