Show History
The Tenterfield Pastoral and Agricultural Society was formed on November 11, 1876, undergoing several name changes before adopting its present title in 1950. The first show was held in April 1877 at the School of Arts, before moving to a government-granted showground in 1879. Since then, the grounds have expanded and improved. The show was renowned for its strong beef cattle and horse sections, and in 1885 became the first to introduce camp-drafting, with judging methods developed there influencing the sport nationwide. A notable highlight came in 1936, when C.H. Perry’s “Lookout,” ridden by W. Barton, set a world equestrian high jump record of 8 ft 3½ in.
