Show History
The Tooraweenah Pastoral, Agricultural and Horticultural Association was formed around 1913, largely through the efforts of Thomas Shelton. Land east of the town was purchased for a showground, partly financed by a bank loan and local guarantees. A simple slab-and-railing pavilion with a brush roof was erected, and the first show held in 1914. Early programs featured traditional sections including bloodstock, trotters, hunters, cattle, sheep, poultry and farm produce. During World War II, the show was reduced to a gymkhana-style sports carnival, with proceeds supporting war funds. In the 1950s, the association returned to a full show format, though without some livestock sections. Events included sheaf tossing, nail driving, woodchopping, ring competitions and strong pavilion entries, with rodeo added in later years.
