Show History
The first Walcha Show in 1878 was organised by the Southern New England Pastoral and Agricultural Association, which planned alternating events with Uralla. This arrangement failed, and Walcha withdrew in 1890 after a scheduling clash. The 1878 show, run by a 94-man committee, attracted 600 exhibits and crowds of up to 1,000, with lively betting even on showjumping. Walcha’s next show came in 1891, a year after forming its own P.A. & H. Association. Preparations included clearing land, building a “commodious” pavilion and rebuilding yards, despite debts from earlier efforts. The result was a success, drawing 1,200 people and strong gate takings. Cattle were described as among the best seen in New England, and cattle and wool were a central features of the Walcha Show.
