Wellington Show

The Wellington Pastoral and Agricultural Society was formed on November 14, 1874, and had a chequered early history. The first show was held in 1875 on land and a shed for exhibits Jent by Henry Nancarrow. Entries included 55 horses, 47 cattle, 77 sheep, six pigs and four wine entries. Droughts and other difficulties restricted subsequent shows to the years 1879, 1881, 1885, 1887 and 1892. The society moved on to better days and regular shows have been held since 1892. A new 27-acre showground was purchased in 1898. The first show on the new ground in 1899 was a success.
