Yass Show

Although attempts to form an agricultural society date back to 1845, the Yass Pastoral and Agricultural Association was officially established in August 1862, with grazier Henry O’Brien as its first president. The inaugural show was held on March 3, 1863, on O’Brien’s land, where he exhibited fleeces from French Merino rams. In the 1870s, two separate bodies—the Yass P. & A. Association and the Yass Sheep Show Association—ran competing shows on different grounds. The P. & A. Association relocated its showground five times before securing its present site in 1903.
